Castle courtyard venue proves a great success for Christmas carols

The Warwick Castle courtyard was packed with the full house crown on Saturday night as the event returned to its original venue.

Even a little rain during the evening failed to dampen spirits and the walls of the Castle echoed to the sound of 3,000 people singing along to carols led by the choirs of St Mary’s, Warwick and dancing around to Christmas tunes from Royal Spa Brass.

Guest presenter Annie Othen, an award-winning broadcaster, told Christmas stories and encouraged the crowd in singing competitions culminating in a rousing ‘The twelve days of Christmas’ with appropriate actions for each day.

There was no shortage of refreshment for the occasion with Mulled wine and other beverages and a good selection of hot food.

The concert raises a five-figure sum for local charities and good causes every year.

The money is distributed to support local good causes by Warwick Lions, Merlin’s Magic Wand, Rotary Club of Warwick, Royal Spa Brass and the Friends of St Mary’s Choir.

Warwick Castle provides the facilities and sponsors dig deep to contribute to maximise the money raised for the charities.

Warwick Independent Schools were again lead sponsors this year with projections on the Castle walls, additional supporting sponsors comprised The University of Warwick, Leamington Mazda, Warwick Printing, Warwick Castle and marketing and PR company LMMC.

stage-view

Tickets are selling like hotcakes as word spreads of the new courtyard venue for Carols at Warwick Castle this year with a last five hundred tickets remaining.

For many years now the event has been held in the East Front of the Castle, but with the Ice Rink now in that location, for the first time in decades, the Carols returns to where it started in the Castle courtyard.

As well as being a great night out, it is a great way to get into the true spirit of Christmas as the event raises a five-figure sum for local charities and good causes every year.

brass-close-up The event this year is set to be another lively evening of singing with the Choirs of St Mary’s led by a lively director of music working in partnership with the great team of musicians from Leamington’s Royal Spa Brass.

There will be no change to the traditional warmth and atmosphere of the evening with our great compère Annie Othen and seasonal treats of mulled wine and a range of food and other hot drinks. There is plenty of parking and the gates open at 6.30. Tickets are priced at £8.00 for anyone over age 12 and £3 for children under12. The event this year takes place on Saturday 21st of December and is the perfect start to your Christmas festivities. There is a direct link to the ticket office on http://www.carolswarwick.com/tickets/.

Carols at Warwick Castle draws a capacity crowd

The enduring popularity of this charity Christmas event has once again been outlined by the rapid “sell out” of tickets.

Online tickets sold out early in December and walk up sales at the castle ticket office have accounted for the majority of the last few hundred tickets.

It is now looking highly unlikely that there will be any tickets remaining by the night of the event so to avoid disappointment please don’t arrive on the night expecting to be able to purchase a ticket.

Everyone attending can expect a fabulous evening of music and will of course be singing along to seasonal favourites led by the choirs of St Mary’s and Royal Spa Brass. An additional treat this year will be provided by the Phillips 66 choir who will be performing some seasonal songs while the crowd gathers. Once again the Castle will be lit up in vibrant colours, courtesy of main sponsor Phillips 66 and the Jet petrol stations. There will also be warming food and drink including: mince pies and sausage rolls, mulled wine, beers, alcohol infused hot chocolate and coffee and regular tea and coffee.

The event raises funds which are distributed to local good causes by Rotary Club of Warwick. Warwick Lions, Merlin’s Magic Wand and the Friends of St Mary’s Choirs.

Other contributors to the success of the event this year are Warwick Printing, Leamington Mazda, Warwick Castle, LMMC (Marketing and PR), and the Giggling Squid Restaurant
